HEAD

Please find information below about how I construct my fursuit heads

I provide different options/alterations available in addition to some pros and cons to help you determine what features/construction methods are best for you - if you are still unsure, you're welcome to contact me.

Please bear in mind, kemono suits can get very warm and stuffy due to the plastic eyes and small mouth.

Fogging can also be an issue with the plastic eyes. Due to the style, the blind spot can also be big.

Though I can't eliminate these issues, I do my best to minimise them as much as possible.

FROM START TO FINISH

Here you can find photos of the general head construction from reference to concept sketch to 3D model to the completed head.

HEAD BASE

The front half of the head is 3D printed, I offer two methods of constructing the head bases after the 3D print. After the print, I bulk out some areas with upholstery foam. The face area of the head is very spacious and will accommodate glasses wearers.

If applicable - most heads will automatically be upgraded to fans in ear vents for an additional cost. Buyer may opt out of this upgrade if requested.

Though I discuss two general types of construction, a combination of either is available which I discuss below. If there is an alternate method you prefer, please let me know.

TYPE A

Strap attachment with central zipper

This type of attachment involves 3 velcro straps and allows 2-way adjustment (horizontal and vertical).

Central zipper makes it easy for glasses wearer to put on without further adjustments. Zipper also allows a slimmer fit which is ideal for partials where the neck fabric is hidden under clothing.

Best suited for: Glasses wearers, characters with medium/long fur and no central protrusions

Pros: Adjustable size, Less insulation due to fewer layers, more portable as the back is fabric and can be folded. Back opens completely - allows easier cleaning

Cons: May need assistance whilst zipping up to stop fur or hair from getting caught. Zipper may break later down the line and require replacing.

TYPE B

Slip on foam shell

*I am new to this method*

This type of construction involves the 3D mask attached to a foam shell back. Foam shell held together by elastic.

Due to the foam shell, the back of this head has a nicer shape - ideal for shorter fur (where the bagginess can't be hidden by the fur fibres). The foam also acts as an anchor to keep any protrusions (i.e., horns, mohawks, ponytails etc.) steady.

Best suited for: Characters with shorter fur and/or protrusions.

Pros: Easier to put on, better shape and less bagginess at the back of the head, a loose fitting neck may be more comfortable.

Cons: May be warmer and ventilation may be reduced due to the extra foam layer. Extra padding may be needed to ensure a better fit

  • Zip up neck available

  • Central zipper with elastic strap available

EYES

I offer both plastic 2D eyes and 3D "follow me" eyes

Eyes are painted digitally and printed on vinyl stickers or sublimation dyed which allows for better customisation and symmetry.

PLASTIC EYES - DEFAULT

Vision through window tinted pupils

This style is your typical kemono eyes with the domes. Constructed on clear plastic sheets with coloured window tint. Plastic domes are stuck on top to complete the look. A ear fans with this style will circulate air but may not eliminate fogging - you may need to use an anti-fog spray.

Pros: Very good vision (like looking through sunglasses), plastic domes makes eyes look shiny

Cons: Fogging, reduced ventilation, may experience minor warped vision due to the domes, the fans can be overly noisy

MESH EYES

Vision through iris and pupils

This style of eyes involves the eye design sub dyed onto fine PVC mesh.

Pros: More artistic liberty with pupil design, wider range of vision, good vision, ventilation through the eyes, no fogging.

Cons: May get glare when looking at bright lights, vision isn't as clear as window tint eye.

This style can be used in combination with the plastic eyes  (i.e. plastic domes), cons for plastic eyes also applies.

OTHER FEATURES

VENTILATION

Heads will have ear vents covered with plastic canvas mesh (where applicable). If ears are big enough, 2 USB fans will be fitted in the ear vents to bring in cool air for better ventilation and cooling. These fans are attached using Velcro. The addition of ear fans will cost extra and is automatically added if the design permits unless the client opts out.

[NB: Fitting for the ear fans are to be done during the construction process. If you decide to add fans when construction has started, you will be charged double the base price for the upgrade]

PADDING

Top, front and chin area of the head is padded with upholstery foam lined with lycra, removeable via velcro for easy cleaning and replacing.

A 3D printed chin stop can be requested free of charge if required.

JAWSET

All heads come with an optional fabric tongue, removable via Velcro. Tongues of varying lengths available at an extra cost.

Option for chibi teeth also available at an extra cost. Teeth will be 3D modelled and sized according to your head base and printed in white PLA before coated in resin for a shiny finish.

LINING

Neck is half lined with lycra which has a built in pocket for a powerbank.

Pocket is also large enough to fit most smart phones.
